At present BOAM has nineteen teams working in many states in India. India is a diverse country with each state having its own language. All of our teams ministering there are from the state in which they are working. Therefore, they are fluent in the language and very much a part of the culture of that state. Our Indian teams are often evangelizing villages that have never heard the Gospel before. Because India is primarily a virgin mission field, when they do win people to Christ in those villages we begin a Bible study and eventually turn that Bible study into a church. At present there are well over 100 churches planted through BOAM in India and many Bible studies that are being conducted which we hope in time to convert into churches. Our teams have been trained how to do effective open air meetings with all classes and ages of people. Their ministry at this time is directed by Timothy Burga, (Email: email@example.com).
Although God has greatly blessed the ministry of BOAM in India, we have only “scratched the surface”. There are now well over a billion people in India, and the vast majority has never heard the Gospel even once. We found working through the nationals to be the most effective way to reach India with the Gospel and then, where necessary, plant Bible studies and churches with the Indian people. The harvest there is great! The laborers are few! Since India is now a well established field with BOAM, we would like to reach out into Nepal, a country to the north, and to Cambodia, Sri Lanka and other countries in that area. We are convinced that India, as well as many countries in the third-world, can be reached effectively with the Gospel using this methodology; training nationals to work as teams preaching to the local people village by village. Then, once people are saved, planting a Bible study and finally converting that Bible study into a church.
Our motto in BOAM is “Committed to the Great Commission”, and the model of outreach God has given to us explained above, we believe is a very, very effective way of reaching the unreached with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. If God has burdened your heart with this part of the world please let us know. Truly the fields are white, but the laborers are few.
Pastor Palivela Solomon Raju with his congregation
We have 137 churches planted in India today. God has supplied enough funds to provide an animal for the pastor of each of these churches. The animal supplies them with continuous support.
Ebenezer School in Kasaragod
The Ebenezer School in Kasaragod was built by our mission at the request of the local leaders of the community. The original purpose of the school was to make a way for the Gospel to be preached in that area. Because Indians hold education in such high regard, the fact that we have placed the school there has indeed opened the hearts of those in the villages. Before we agreed to open the school the leaders in that area had asked our evangelistic team to leave. This area had previously been unreached with the Gospel. Our team has been able to minister in hundreds of villages because of the success of the school and several churches have been planted.
A few years after the school was opened additional funds were needed to enlarge the school and add grade levels up to the seventh year. Those funds were provided and now we are able to keep the school running for the next several years. The new school construction is progressing well. Of course everyone in the area sees the school construction, and the locals are very encouraged by it. Of course this is keeping the door wide-open for the preaching of the Gospel. In about three or four years we would like to purchase more land outside of town and erect another building that will cover grade eight through High School. This would keep the area permanently open to the preaching of the Gospel throughout Kasaragod.
India Translation Projects
The Lord opened the door for BOAM to expand into India in 1997 and since that time the Lord has given us a wonderful harvest of souls for His kingdom. However, if we just stop here we are not really being obedient to the Great Commission. Our Lord instructs us in Matthew 28:20 that we are to teach these new believers “to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” This sounds simple enough except for one small problem…quality discipleship material is not available for many of the third-world countries. In countries like India, the Philippines, and other third-world countries, good Christian literature is very, very limited and some languages do not even have a whole Bible. New believers in Christ need to have a Bible as well as good Christian literature in order to grow in their faith.
After much prayer and research, the Lord led BOAM to start BILED, (BOAM’s International Literature Education Department), with the goal of producing quality discipleship material in the native languages of those who are not as blessed as we are here in the United States.
God has enabled BILED to complete the translation of Dr. Clarence Sexton’s book “Truths Every Christian Needs to Know” into three Indian languages: Hindi, Telugu, and Punjabi. A collection of sermons published by the Sword of the Lord entitled “Great Preaching on Christmas” has also been translated into Telugu. Both have been a blessing to many of the new believers in India.
